The 64th National Film Awards was awarded to the stars by the honorable president of India Mr.Pranab Mukherjee yesterday in New Delhi. The crowd wholeheartedly felicitated every award winner, as the national award is considered to be the most prestigious award one could dream off. The highlight of the function was when the veteran filmmaker K Viswanath was honored with Dadasaheb Phalke Award. When Akshay Kumar bagged the best actor award, Surabhi hailing from Kerala bagged the best actress award. Sonam Kapoor bagged the special jury mention in the actress category while the lieutenant colonel Superstar Mohanlal bagged the special jury mention in the men category.

All the news channels in the south India gave a clean report of the entire function, mentioning the pictures and names of the ones who were felicitated by the president of India. Shockingly, most of the news channels in the north India had only north Indian actors on their list. There was not even a single mention about who won the best actress award, special mention in actor category.

All the headlines in North India Media carry Akshay Kumar and Sonam Kapoor on top and appreciations are being given only to the ones hailing from North India. People from south India have raised valid points in the comment section of such posts asking the media to stop their ignorant attitude towards south India and requesting them to respect the deserved.
Malayalam actor Surabhi Lakshmi won the best actress for her role in film Minnaminungu-The Firefly while Mohanlal received a Special Jury award for Janatha Garage, Pulimurugan, and Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol. Akshay Kumar won the best actor for his brilliant acting in the movie Rustom, while Sonam got the special mention for her acting in Neerja.

Popular online media including scoopwhoop has taken a step back from mentioning the names of the award winners from South India and social media users from north India has condemned the same citing “The nation stands as one even when you try to divide us”. It will be a lot better if the media who ought to pass out a positive message to the society refrain themselves from creating such differences among people.
